Predicting the Worse Famine in Decades
Mark Lawcock told reporters outside the Security Council, “There will be a famine in Yemen. It will not be like the one in 2011 in Somalia that cost 250,000 people their lives. It will be the largest famine the world has seen in many decades, with millions of victims.” Click for the video of his statement
The British paper The Independent reported on Nov. 16 on a Save the Children press release that they expect 50,000 Yemeni children to die before the end of this year. This is due to the "Saudi blockade of rebel held areas of the country". Yemen, destroyed by years of civil war and especially by Saudi-U.S. bombing, desperately needs outside aid to feed and treat its civilain population.
